I went to Rangitoto Island this recent Sunday. It was a fun experience tramping along the walks towards the peak of Rangitoto, a new born island (formed about a century ago caused by a massive volcanic eruption from the seabed)... The hole island is made up of harden molten volcanic ash as well as the lighter dust which had been spewed into the air during the time of eruption settling on top of it... it was filled with primary forest where shrubs are growing and there were no mosquitoes and pests as the conservation team tries to prevent the wiping out of some bird species that has settled on this island... I planned to go to the island again, as the lava caves are waiting for me to explore them.... And the serenity of the view is just so breathtaking...
It would be better next time if there wasn't such a big crowd... It was quite crowdy at the time when we went there... Most of them had gotten the deal on online which also expires on the same day (Ours was also the case..XD) It is fun to pace along the walks without anyone panting behind us and having loud music, shouting, and heavy footsteps which threaten our privacy and quicken our walking pace... Not that enjoyable... but the walk was worth it...the view at the peak was fascinating!
